Shared savings goals with visible progress

Saving together works when both people can see it happening. A goal, a ring that fills, and a nudge at every quarter.

Monthly Snapshot turns day-to-day activity into a clear view of progress and spending patterns. Demo data shown.

In short

A savings goal in SharedNest is a named target with an amount and optional date. Both people contribute, progress is shown as a filling ring, and milestone notifications land at 25%, 50%, 75% and completion. Goals sit next to your spending, so the trade-off between the two stays visible.

What should a household save for first?

An emergency fund covering three to six months of essential costs comes before anything optional. Once that exists, goals with dates — a deposit, a trip, a car replacement — are much easier to keep.

SharedNest lets you run several goals at once with different priorities, so the emergency fund can keep filling while a holiday fund grows more slowly.

How do contributions work?

Either person adds a contribution whenever money moves into the goal. Each contribution is attributed, so you can see who has put in what without either person having to ask.

  • Multiple goals with independent targets and dates
  • Progress ring plus the amount and percentage remaining
  • Milestone notifications at 25%, 50%, 75% and 100%
  • Contributions attributed by member

How does saving show up in the rest of the app?

Savings progress appears in the Monthly Snapshot and the weekly digest, next to spending pace and upcoming bills — the context that tells you whether this month's spending is borrowing from next year's plan.

A worked example: €6,000 emergency fund

Essential monthly costs of €2,000, a three-month target, contributions split by income.

Target
€6,000
Monthly contribution
€400
Higher earner (60%)
€240
Lower earner (40%)
€160
Time to target
15 months
First milestone (25%)
Month 4

Raising the contribution to €500 reaches the target in 12 months. The emergency fund calculator will run both numbers before you commit to either.

Questions people ask

Does SharedNest hold the money?

No. Your money stays in your own accounts; SharedNest tracks the goal, the contributions and the progress.

Can we have a goal that only one of us contributes to?

Yes. Contributions are per person, so a goal can be shared, uneven, or effectively individual.

What happens when we reach a goal?

You get a completion notification and the goal is marked reached, with its history preserved so you can see how long it took.

How much should we be saving?

A common target is 10-20% of net income once essentials and debt are covered, but the honest answer depends on your fixed-cost ratio — which SharedNest shows you.
